I completely agree with you on the importance of countering sibyls in the crypto space. It is essential to maintain a fair and balanced environment for all users.
I apologize if the technical aspects of the proposal were a bit overwhelming. Simply put, the idea is to create a unique digital “stamp” (NFT) for each device that the user uses to interact with crypto projects. This “stamp” is unique to the device and cannot be duplicated, which helps prevent multiple accounts from being created by the same person.
I am here to answer any questions you may have and to make this proposal as clear and understandable as possible. Your input is greatly appreciated and I appreciate your time in reading and commenting on the proposal.
Absolutely, the best is indeed yet to come! We’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible in the crypto space. Stay tuned for more updates on this project. Your support and feedback are greatly appreciated!
This application will automate the process of device identification and NFT creation, improve the uniqueness and security of user interaction in the encryption field, and prevent multiple account operations.
Thank you for your feedback! I’m glad to hear that you see the potential benefits of this idea. Simplicity, uniqueness, and security are indeed the key pillars of this proposal. I believe that by implementing this unique device identification application, we can truly revolutionize the way users interact within the crypto space. Stay tuned for more updates on this project!
Absolutely, you’ve captured the essence of the idea perfectly! The application is designed to automate the process of device identification and NFT minting, thereby enhancing the uniqueness and security of user interactions in the crypto space. By binding each device to a unique NFT, we aim to discourage multi-accounting and ensure a fairer and more balanced environment for all users. I’m glad you see the potential in this idea!
Welcome! It’s great to have you here. This is indeed a fantastic place to learn and share ideas. Feel free to ask questions and contribute to discussions. We all learn from each other in this community. Looking forward to your insights!
Let me put like this: I really like the proposal, but I guess it could have some negative outcomes that might be subject to more research on a solution, namely:
Whales might still have accesses to different devices or services that could provide different inputs for the NFT generation, such as cloud services or other virtual machine techniques
Also people who have access to many devices such as in an university or a company would have ways to generate different NFTs for many wallets
Someone who does “genuine sybil” will be impacted negatively, like for example a person who takes care of different wallets such as in a familly, or an assets manager.
The tradability of this NFT, allied with the above facts, might undermine the purpose of sybling control, as it might allow someone to buy different NFTs to act as if they have genuine unique wallets. If it is the case that the NFT cannot be used in a different wallet than the one in wich it was created, so there’s still no point of making it tradable, and I believe that a better solution would be a SBT, thereby keeping also a wallet record of devices it is bound to
Ethically the very motivation behind this prop is noble and willed towards good for all. But the final technical analysis on my part seems to see this as an unnecessary repetition of already existing solution but using a different name.
First off,Sybil will never be completely eliminated in the space, the best we can do is reduce it to barest minimum possible and in doing so it’s important to bear in mind that less is the new more.
We have galxe ID where in most cases wasn’t so efficient so we had passport
This passport is an SBT which means it’s nontransferable in the practical sense now to cheat this particular system for me is harder since each person has only one identity at least it’s very difficult for people to cheat this on an individual level . So irrespective of the devices it’s the one and only way to verify yourself
So for me if we truly want to take care of Sybil it makes more sense to make galxe passport the only and ultimate requirements for participating in any incentivized campaign. No passport SBT no campaign policy period.
Now to the Device NFT
As far as I’m concerned and as the author of this prop has failed to convince me it doesn’t solve Sybil infact it will enhance Sybil in my opinion why?
The device nft only recognise devices not individuals (passport is individual not device)
Now that means this proposal is saying as long as I can mint the nfts across all my 10 devices then that’s proof of humanity? Definitely not trust me lost of people will buy devices or simply rent it for the duration of the campaign just to cheat the system
The nfts will be tradable and transferable meaning it is not an SBT. Also the fact that it will be tradable and transferable makes it even more lucrative for cheaters because after the campaign they can still list the nft and sell (what a messy way to secure real honest people)
The whole system will aid cheating at a level never before seen, imagine a situation where you have an invite contest one guy can simply use as much devices as possible and will invite each others reason is because we not tracking human data but some nfts attached to the device.
Added layer of complexity to verification for team and thereby reducing speed and accuracy due to multiple layers of vetting. It is common knowledge that hackers look for loopholes in programs to exploit that’s why the safest program has the simplest outlay that way it’s easier to vet and checkmate any form of issues. The flip side of this is that it will take months lots of time manpower and funds to track and resolve and issue due to undue Layers that needs to be vetted etc. In a nutshell I’m saying having galxe ID galxe passport and now device nft makes absolutely no practical financial nor technical sense as far as enhancing security and preventing Sybil is concerned.
If we simply want to add more ways to earn for users I understand if we want to add more campaigns I understand but the Device NFT prop is not in anyway going to make the rewarding system any fairer if anything it will make it more cumbersome and much more easier to cheat.
My solution: Make galxe passport a compulsory requirements for all who wants to participate in giveaway campaigns such as we have in our community. One wallet one passport since it’s an SBT and since everyone will go through real kyc to get it then it’s the best solution we already had no need looking elsewhere.
I appreciate you for this proposal it definitely came out of good intention for the community but it just doesn’t solve the problems it touts to do instead it enhances the problem
Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and analysis of the proposal. I appreciate your concerns and understand where you’re coming from.
The intention behind the unique device identification application and NFT minting system is not to replace existing security measures, but rather to complement them. It’s designed to add an additional layer of security and uniqueness to user interactions in the crypto space.
The Galxe passport, as you rightly pointed out, is a powerful tool for individual identification and is instrumental in discouraging multi-accounting. The device identification application is not intended to replace it, but rather to work alongside it, providing an extra layer of security at the device level.
As for your concerns about the potential misuse of device NFTs, I understand your point. This proposal is in its early stages and is open to modifications and improvements. The idea of making the NFTs non-transferable or introducing other restrictions is something that could be considered in future versions of the system.
The goal is to continuously refine and improve the system based on feedback and the evolving needs of the crypto space. The first version of the system focuses on the most essential functionality, but future versions could introduce additional features to enhance security and efficiency even further.
Again, thank you for your feedback. It’s invaluable in helping to shape and improve this proposal. I look forward to continuing this discussion and working together to create a more secure and fair crypto ecosystem.
Thanks for your thoughtful feedback!
You have raised some important points and I appreciate your point of view.
Regarding your concern, I would like to clarify a few things:
Whales and virtual machines. The application is designed to determine if the device is virtual or not. We are exploring every possible way to work with virtual machines and cloud services to ensure that the system cannot be easily manipulated.
Access to multiple devices. In situations where one user has access to many devices, such as in a university or company, we are considering building an NFT ERC-1155 with access to multiple devices. This will allow one NFT to share the device, thereby maintaining the integrity of the system.
Genuine Sybil Cases: I understand that there are legitimate cases where a single user can manage multiple wallets, such as a family member managing wallets for their family or managing their clients’ assets. We are looking for ways to account for such cases without compromising the system’s primary goal of preventing multiple accounting.
NFT Trading: NFT trading is indeed a complex issue. We’re still learning the best ways to handle this to ensure it doesn’t undermine the purpose of the system. Your proposal to use SBT and keep records in the wallets of the devices to which it is tied is interesting and will be taken into account when developing future versions of the system.
Your feedback is invaluable and we will continue to improve the offer to address these issues. Thanks again for your input!
Thanks for your question!
A Galxe Passport Holder is more than just a purchase; it’s an investment in enhanced security and a simplified user interface. With a passport holder, users can securely store and easily access their deviceNFT. It is designed to provide added value by discouraging multi-accounting and promoting fair interaction in the crypto space. Although it may seem optional, its benefits are intended to improve the overall web3 experience.
